From The Classroom to the Runway of Virginia Fashion Week

Mrs. G. Wilson and her Introduction to Fashion Careers classes participated in the finale showcase of Virginia Fashion Week, November 10, 2019. Their final design from their “Butterfly Collection” was featured in the Sunday edition of the Virginian Pilot, November 17, 2019.

The director of Virginia Fashion Week, Ann Leister also commented, “The giant butterfly designed by the students was the show stopping moment of the Virginia Fashion Week showcase. It was definitely a WOW moment.” Mrs. Leister shared the “Butterfly Collection” on her personal and business social medial pages.

The students created their garments as part of their STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics) projects. The students used CAD (Computer-Aided Design) programs to create their garment designs. They also used STEAM online computer generated manufacturing to construct several of the garments. The rest of the garments were sewn by Mrs. G. Wilson and her students.

The programs and technology used were created by Mrs. G. Wilson. Mrs. Wilson has been working with the STEAM partnership in Dubai since 2017. The partnership funds her classroom STEAM projects. Mrs. G. Wilson will also be presenting her new fashion technology and programs at Expo 2020 Dubai in October 2020. Mrs. Wilson also has a partnership with the Arab Fashion Council. She participated in the 2018 Arab Fashion Week in Dubai, UAE.
The Introduction to Fashion Careers students have also been invited by the Metropolitan Museum of Art again this year to create gowns for the 2020 Met Gala in May. The Introduction to Fashion Careers students created three gowns for the 2019 Met Gala. Mrs. G. Wilson is a member of the Met Press. She serves as a photographer and covers events for the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Mrs. G.  Wilson is the owner of ETAMIB Couture (www.etamib.biz). She is a celebrity designer for many red carpet events. Mrs. Wilson always includes work from her students in her fashion shows and presentations.  The Introduction to Fashion Careers students are currently working on STEAM related projects which will be showcased in Las Vegas Nevada and Los Angeles California in December 2019 and January 2020.
