Teacher of the Year 20/21

Scott Graham, a mathematics and physics teacher at King's Fork High School, has been named the 2021 City-Wide Teacher of the Year for Suffolk Public Schools. Graham served as a military officer in the United States Air Force before pursuing his lifelong desire to teach.  His coworker Stuart Jones explains, "What makes Mr. Graham truly unique is his willingness to assist any student or faculty member who may need help-whether that help is math-related or not."

His experiences as a military officer influenced his teaching style of storytelling, open discussion, and leading by example. "When I walk into the classroom, my goal is to impart as much knowledge as I can into my students as humanly possible by any means available." His commitment to education extends beyond the classroom, supporting his students by attending extracurricular activities.  He has served as a member of the School Leadership Committee, a pre-calculus teacher in the International Baccalaureate program, and a Math Department Chair at King's Fork High School.

Graham is a productive community member, working with the Boy Scouts and a church volunteer.

He earned a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from West Point, a master's degree in Business Organizational Management from the University of La Verne, a second master's degree in Industrial Engineering from Texas A&M University, and obtained his teaching licensure through Virginia Wesleyan College.
