Course Title:  Computer Information Systems

Course Description: 

Students apply problem-solving skills in applying technology to real-life situations through word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications, graphic information, manuscripts and reports using Windows and other programs.  Completion of this course may prepare students for industry certification.  An additional elective credit may be earned by meeting the requirements of the Cooperative Office Education (6799) Program.

 

Course Prerequisites: 

Keyboarding Applications, Word Processing or Business Computers and Communications

 

Course Materials:  3-ring binder or spiral notebook, notebook paper, two-pocket folder, ream of paper, pens, and pencils

 

Course Objectives:

Students will be able to perform the following functions:

· Explain the functions of computer system components

· Differentiate among a variety of word processing programs

· Compose a variety of documents (i.e., letters, memoranda, reports, newsletters, tables, and brochures)

· Enhance layout of documents by using formatting features

· Create and Edit spreadsheets

· Create a database by defining fields and designing formats

· Identify the components of an effective presentation

· Research and organize information for a multimedia presentation

· Use local and world wide network communication systems

· Deliver a multimedia presentation according to the principles of effective communication

· Explore uses of the Internet in business applications

· Research career opportunities

· Compose career portfolios

**Note:  Credit for any homework given will be incorporated into daily production.

 

Tutoring, Make-up assignments, and Lab work

I will be available for students in the computer lab Monday – Friday from 2:15 – 2:45. Only students that schedule lab time for these days ahead of time will be permitted to use the after school lab in my  classroom. 

 

Make-up work Policy:

Upon returning to school from an absence, it is the responsibility of the student(excused or unexcused absence) to complete any work missed during the absence.  The student will have 5 school days to complete all work that was missed during the absence.

Students will be required to report and present on current events on a weekly basis.  They will be provided resources to help them find their articles.  Also, if you receive any business publications or a daily newspaper, this would be very helpful for the student.  In addition, the student will receive three points extra credit on their assignment if they wear professional attire the when presenting the article.
