SOL Tests are criterion-referenced tests which will be direct measures of the Virginia Standards of Learning. The first full administration of these tests began in the spring of 1998.

Direct Writing Retakes: Oct. 22-25, 2007

| The SAT Reasoning Test, sponsored by the College Board, is a measure of the critical thinking skills needed for academic success in college. The SAT is typically taken by high school juniors and seniors. Each section of the SAT is scored on a scale of 200—800, with two writing subscores for multiple-choice and the essay. The SAT Subject Tests, formerly called the SAT-II Test, are a part of the basic admission requirement for many of the more competitive colleges and universities. The usual requirement is three tests (English, math and one area of strength as selected by the student) Check with the college admission office to see if these are required.

The ACT is required for admission to some college and universities. This test covers 4 subject areas: English, math, social studies, natural science. Students can take both the ACT and the SAT.
