Coach Potter attended Irving High School in Irving, Texas. While at Irving, Coach Potter played football, baseball, and was a shot putter on the track team. 

Coach Potter coached baseball, softball, and soccer in Chesapeake. He is a graduate of East Carolina University with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology. In addition, Coach Potter has completed his graduate work in Engineering Management at Old Dominion University.

In his first year as the Wrestling Coach at King's Fork during the 2006-2007 school year, the grappling Bulldogs enjoyed their most successful year to date, winning five matches and taking two wrestlers to regionals. Coach Potter has assisted Coach Varney with the Varsity Baseball Team for two seasons.

Coach Potter is a former Engineer who now teaches Technology Education at King's Fork High School.
