Coach Jones graduated in 1986 from Virginia Tech and played tight end on the Virginia Tech football team. He was the Offensive Team Captain for the Hokies. Coach Jones was drafted in the 10th round by the Dallas Cowboys in 1985. He attended training camps, as a free agent, with the Buffalo Bills, San Francisco 49ers, the Houston Oilers and the Minnesota Vikings. Coach Jones played three NFL games with the Indianapolis Colts.
Coach Jones coached one year as an Assistant Football Coach at Poquoson High School and one year at Suffolk High School. He was Head Football Coach at Windsor High School for five years, Franklin High School for two years, and Smithfield High School for six years. He was also a volunteer football coach at Windsor High School and Nansemond-Suffolk Pop Warner.
Coach Jones teaches Health and Physical Education at King's Fork High School.
