What can we say about our Mighty Bulldogs Football team? We went from a losing season, not even scoring a point in our 2004 season to a now 6 wins and 4 losses. In our 2005 season we won only 3 games, but it is better than nothing. Then the Bulldogs came out a little more and won 4 games. Now we finished with a winning record.

You know we used to be just a big joke when we started in 2004. Now, we can get the respect that we are owed because we are doing better than most. They used to think of us as weak dogs but now what can they say? We have earned our title “The Mighty Bulldogs.” Our bite is now worse than our bark! Woof! Woof!

Scandalous Senator

Larry Craig was once a respected man of the senate, until he supposedly was caught having illicit actions in a restroom at the Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport. At first he tried to solve the problem quietly and quickly by pleading guilty for the allegations. Then, Craig made a statement saying that he was innocent and that all the rumors were false. After resigning and then recanting that resignation, it’s hard to know where he stands on this issue, that is regarding to the accusations against him. However, a few weeks later the State of Minnesota District Court Fourth Judicial District found Craig guilty.

Good News for Our Troops

Also, the Bush administration has asked for more money to support the war on Iraq. The amount of money Bush is asking for equals up to about 42 billion dollars. This money is said to help protect our troops from road side bombs and also help get more armed vehicles.

California: Up in Smoke

Finally, there has been a huge series of fires across California. Most of the fires are in residential areas and the firemen  had  trouble putting out the rapidly-spreading fires. The shelters provided to the victims of the fire have also been burned down. The fire department said that the fires were so extreme that all they could do was to let them go out.  It is now said that the cause of the fires are due to a boy playing with matches.  Lesson: Don’t play with matches!

Guns in school:

What does your Safety mean to you?

For the most part, people consider schools to be a safe place. We use the high school as a safe shelter during the storm or other dangerous events. That’s why when a school has a gun scare, such as the one we experienced a couple weeks ago, or is even rumored to occur, we really have no idea how to react. When I heard about the “shooting”, I admit I was scared. Many of my peers, including myself, decided to not attend school, thinking it best for our safety.

We have been made aware that with all the recent events it could have been very possible that these kids didn’t act alone; that they were part of a group that talked about harming themselves, or others, but they took it too far. This group is the same as any other group called a “gang.” It’s a group of people who share an interest and mind-set or logic used to justify their behavior. They believe that “I’m in a gang, I rule you!” All you rule is yourself; no one can control you unless you give them consent. It’s not cool to be in a gang, all it proves is how insecure you really are.

If shootings such as VA Tech and Columbine would never have happened, imagine what the victims would be doing today. We might already have the cure for cancer by now, an end of nuclear weapons, or maybe even world peace. One key personality trait that was common in all three shootings was the shooters were quiet, lonely kids. Our personalities may differ, but all humans need to be able to communicate with others. It is a basic human need, and when this communication is not experienced, it can lead to feeling alone. It is a cycle that needs to stop.

T.I

First in the news we have 27 year old T.I, who after facing 10 years in prison, has finally made his initial appearance in court on Monday (October 15) to answer to weapon charges.  On Saturday, T.I. was also charged with trying to buy guns and silencers because he wasn’t registered and the gun dealer was not legally approved.

Britney Spears

Just weeks after finally getting her California driver's license, Britney Spears turned herself into the Los Angeles police on Monday night because of a connection with a pair of minor traffic offenses. The singer was booked for an August 6 incident in a Los Angeles parking lot where her car scraped up against another parked vehicle — an incident that was captured on film by some of the many paparazzi trailing her on the outing. At the time, Spears got out of the car, looked over the damage of her car, and then walked into a nearby building, without leaving a note for the other vehicle's owner. The other vehicle’s owner filed a police report three days later. Spears was later charged with one misdemeanor.

Paranoia at King’s Fork

By: Cody Duncan

Over several weeks, there have been a numerous amount of fights that have eventually lead up to a threat that there was going to be a shooting at this school. On the day that the shooting was supposed to take place, the school had extra police officers patrolling and also had several metal detectors. Although there have been less fights, the paranoia is sky high due to a bomb threat called in to the Suffolk Police.  Can we just get through one week of school without any craziness?

Also, there has been a MRSA infection outbreak in a few of the middle schools .and high schools around Hampton Roads. The schools will be sanitized so that the infection does not spread and hopefully will not continue onto other schools in the district. MRSA can be avoided by using antibacterial soaps after uses of the restrooms. Though there hasn't been an immediate threat, don’t think you aren’t immune. Stay safe and clean!
